Making realistic concrete
By Mike1810 on Feb 23, 2002 05:03 PM
Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce myself. My name is Mike Hagelsieb and am a college student in California. I began my journey into 3d computer graphics about half a year ago and am loving every minute of it. I was wondering if someone could offer any advice on how to texture a large area of sidewalk, driveway etc. with a realistic concrete texture. I've found many textures but when I go into photoshop to make them seamless they still look flat and non life-like. I would really appreciate ANY suggestions. Keep up the great posts! Thanks!

Add a bump map to make it look more textured.  I would use a map that looks grainy, like sand.  You could also add a noise modifier to your sidewalk to make it look more realistic.  Almost no sidewalk is going to be perfectly symetrical and flat.

Try to use displacement modifier to create geometry from the shape of texture and dont forget to use the same material id
for better results use some light and check shadow ON
