texturing the face?

Just wondering if anyone has info on how to make a realist face texture (photoshop).  The ones in Final fantasy look great, but how do you get rid of the shadows and make skin flat?  Are there any procedures that texture artists use? Are there any procedural skin textures on the net? Any help would be apprciated :)+(

I'm a 3ds max and photoshop user, so whatever I say has to do with Max-
In max, you can get this plugin called texporter- where with which you can export a decent unwrapping of your head- then you take it into photoshop- for a face, you need at least 3 maps- bump, diffuse, and specular! for instance, the edge of your eyelids are usually glossy. Also notice that under the eyes it's usually slightly glossier, so you have to draw that onto your texture map. Unless your character will be bald, there are places you can hide bumpmap inconsistencies (under the hair!), so you can use noise on your bump bitmap, or, you can draw the bump for other areas (some prominent pores, wrinkles, etc.) and use a Mix (i think that's what it was, or was it Shellac?) map for bump, and use your bitmap AND a cellular procedural map.
On the diffuse, you have to determine what will be redder than other parts of the face, and draw it on, but DON'T draw every face detail, your modeling should cover some of that- just skin coloration. That's all I can think of for now..
