Laser scanning and rapidform - a method for modeling
By wlo on Oct 02, 2006 09:03 PM
I have been laser scanning this last year and using rapidform for point manipulations. Now there is an upgrade that works really well with creating the cad/model right off the point cloud. Its called XOR
Check out Rapidform XOR and also my site; www.aeronautica3d.com To see some raw data, see www.aeronautica3d.com/cas1.html , www.aeronautica3d.com/TI.html , www.aeronautica3d.com/travis.html The scanner is really good for curved shapes and designs. I use a long range scanner(Leica HDS3000) that has scanning accuracies to 6mm, and modeled accuracies to 1-3 mm, but also plan to get the Microscan 3D someday to put on my Microscribe G2L for small item scans. For the modelers, I think, you can ask for quick scans that will just get you cross-sections, which will help in modeling - and is cheaper than a full scan of objects.
