Maya 4 Movie??

Can maya 4 (or higher) export rendering to avi or mpg.. both.. anything? I can't seem to find a single tutorial on how to export to a movie (without 3rd party software that costs an arm and a leg on top of maya).

i'm doing this to learn and have fun dont really wanna spend $234,234.50 on my hobby LOL!!
