raytrace problem on 3dsmx6

Hello artists
Im using the default scanline renderer on 3ds max 6. I made a silver type material in the material editor and added raytrace in the reflections map slot. except not all the model polygons reflect the surrounding they all display the silver material but a few faces dont reflect. Also does anyone no how to soften reflections of raytrace they are too sharp an i dont know how to blur them. Thank you
