PlanetOut Inc. and the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (MGLFF) are proud to announce the Sixth Annual PlanetOut Short Movie Awards. These prestigious annual awards celebrate excellence in lesbian and gay short filmmaking. Winners receive the opportunity to reach a national audience via online exhibition of their work and to have their work reviewed by industry professionals.

Our jury will select a Grand Prize winner, as well as five First Prize winners in each of five categories (drama, comedy, animation, experimental and documentary), working from a shortlist of finalists determined by the MGLFF and PlanetOut Inc.

The winners will be announced and presented at a special PlanetOut Short Movie Awards ceremony and program at MGLFF on April 24, 2005. The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is the premiere LGBT film festival in the Southeastern United States showcasing the best new GLBT films to an international audience.

Selection of Winners
The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival will review all Entries and select up to five finalists ("Finalists") in each of the five film Categories. Selection and judging will be determined on a combination of factors including cleverness and originality; quality of writing, acting, and production values; innovative use of the medium; relevance of subject matter; and good old-fashioned entertainment value. Five (5) First Prize Winners ("First Prize Winners") and one (1) Grand Prize Winner ("Grand Prize Winner") will be selected from the Finalists by industry professionals who are part of the PlanetOut.com Short Movie Awards Jury. The Grand Prize winner may or may not also be a First Prize Winner.

The five First Place Award winners in the categories of Best Animation, Best Comedy, Best Documentary, Best Drama, and Best Experimental Film, and the overall Grand Award winner chosen from one of these categories, will be screened at a special ceremony and program in Miami as part of the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival on Sunday April 24, 2005. The Grand Award winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize. The First Place Award winners will receive $1,000 cash prizes each. ALL TAXES AND ANY EXPENSES RELATED TO THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY AWARDS ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER. Awards are not transferable.
