cable animation help

Hello,
Can anyone help with this query: I have an animnated charcter moving away from a fixed point and he is attached to a cable. The other end of the cable is plugged into a fixed point. At the moment the 'cable' is a circle extruded down a spline (ie it's a fixed solid object). How can I make this cable move so as the character moves away it gets tighter and tighter until the plug pops out of the socket? cheers ff PS I'm using Studio Max 4 By Riwal on Oct 11, 2004 03:27 PM
I think you can use bones for this
The start of the bones chain is the plug to the wall and you link the end to the character. When it moves, the chain of bones will affect the cable (via skin modifier). Hope it helps :? By sepulker on Jan 02, 2005 07:31 PM
I think for this you should think of using reactor by Havoc. I'm not sure if theres a plugin for max4, but for the meantime you could download the demo of max7 from discreet (www.discreet.com). Then you'll have 30 days to make your rope react with real dynamics, and before time runs out, import it back into 4 if you can. If not, find a way to upgrade to max7 anyway, its worlds better!
