3d modelering - special required?

Hi
I'm new to this 3d modellering thingie..
I wonder if you need to be good in general when it comes to things like painting and so?
I'm realy not good in drawing and so, cant get things even :P but maybe that's easier when you got coordinates or whatever it is in program as maya?
