Absolute Newbie

Hi folks:

I'm completely new to 3D graphics production and I'd like to ask which app (for Win2k) is going to suit my needs best: (Preferably with a free evaluation download)

I'd like to be able to create 3D text *as well* as be able to create 3D effect images by overlaying 2d layers/textures over an existing 3D image, I guess by laying a virtual wire-mesh over the 3D image and "glueing" the 2D layer to this mesh.

Also - are there any online repositiories of pre-made 3D images to use as examples to experiment with?

Sorry if the lingo isnt exactly correct - like I said I'm new to this!

google will offer a list if you use the woreds "free 3d models".  I suggest you go and find what program you are the most comfortable with.  how?  Just ask the salesman.
