Modeling a punched steel mesh?

What I want is to make a steel mesh with small holes covering an area about 72"x24"x1/8".  The holes would be about an 1/8" is diameter covering the area.  How can I do this effectively?  I am guessing that the answer is either relatively simple or relatively difficult, but I have looked at a ton of tutorials and haven't found the right one yet.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using 3D Studio Viz.
