Place letters onto a sphere

Can anyone help me?
I want to put some letters onto a sphere whereby the letters should be formed to fit the surface of the sphere.

Try a displacement map.


Make a black image in photoshop and type your text on it in white, then apply the texture to the sphere as a displacement map. Should work alright.
