Modelling Hair

I'm modelling a female face and I'm having trouble with the hair.  I am using Brazil r/s to render and it seems the opacity method to create hair turns out a bug in the brazil renderer.
Here is the error:

the transparent parts render the background and not the mesh like it is suppose to.
Also I would like some tips on other hair modelling methods.
