n00b looking for Tutorials...

Ok, I'm not really a newbie to concepts of digital art (I've been working with Photoshop, Bryce, and Poser for quite a while, and added Lightwave to my repetoire). I am however, like a newborn baby when it comes to truly modeling something (Closest I got was moving thing's arms around in Poser).
I'm curious if anyone can point me in a direction that will help me explore the elements of Lightwave, and perhaps make a decent looking head. (I don't need a tut. that explores every facet of the interface, I've been dabbling in LW enough to get used to each command, but no where near mastery.) Also, if anyone can suggest a few good Books to buy, I'd be appreciative as well.
