Is scripting useful?

Is it useful for a modeler/animators to use the script in 3D max.Is there like Magical script that generate a crowd of people walking or something like that...Or is it just for gaming...
And if there is "magical" script, is it a good idea for a beginner to try it, or is it better to first model very well and then start to understand script?
