Linux & Maya
By mooR on Feb 16, 2003 04:46 PM
Hello.

I was wandering if anybody is currently working with Maya4.5 on Linux ?
I had a chance to check it out for a couple of days and i don't know why,
maybe it was my worsktation problem or whatever but the performance was horrible.
Of course the hardware is certified for running Maya on my Linux box.
I would like some feedback from you people just to get an idea if the problem was only
mine.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
moor

Probably Maya was running in software mode, due to inadequate graphic drivers. Itīs simple to check, hereīs how. When you start maya, read the log file (I display the "UI-command line" and click on the little box to the far right.) Read the lines at the top. If Maya has problems with the Open-GL driver it will give an error message about it.

7.2 is more compatible than 7.3 but in linux 7.2 the process is slow,
in linux 7.3 it is fast but we cannot select polygons.

Hello,

It's strange. Maya does not output any error neather. I'v done some search and i found out
that my linuxbox is properly certified for running Maya. With no limitation on the software side.
Does anybody know if there exists a howto or tips n'tricks kind of document out there in the net,
about how to tune the linuxbox to run Maya fine ?
