applying skin modifyer

Hi to everybody.
Need a drop of experience from anybody!

I need to rotate joint (let say shoulder) around two different axis ( z and y) making animation in two simple keyframes
Everything seems all right after applying joint angle deformer after first rotation (around first axis). However as soon as I trying to rotate around other axis, the gizmo of joint angle deformer behaving in strange way - starts to jump. And a skin of my model doesn;t move smoothly.
Do anybody knows the right way how to apply skin modyfier and adjusting its deformers to rotate joint around to perpendicular axis?

Check out the tutotial that ships with max 6 or go to 3Dbuzz.com, plenty of info there.
