Denver Broncos news

The Broncos again have the No. 1 AFC playoff seed after routing the Raiders on Sunday.

They will get a bye through next week first round, then will http://www.officialauthentic49ersshop.com/Chris_Borland_Jersey_49ers play either Indianapolis, Kansas City or San Diego in the second round on Sunday, Jan.

If they win that second round game, the Broncos will play in the AFC championship possibly against the No. 2 seeded Patriots or No. 3 seeded Cincinnati Bengals again in front of their home fans on Jan. 19.

The Broncos have announced that tickets for their home AFC Divisional playoff game to be played on Sunday, Jan. Tickets will be available only to those with a billing address in the Rocky Mountain region, including Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, South Dakota and Western Kansas.

OAKLAND Given that the NFL has already asked Denver fans to attend six night games in their 10 game home schedule this year (counting two night preseason games), the Broncos would prefer to play their second round AFC playoff game on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12.

The 12 3 Broncos have already clinched a first round playoff bye and right to host a second round playoff game on either Jan. 11 or Jan. 12. They must beat the 4 11 Oakland Raiders here today to nab the No. 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.

The Broncos had the No. 1 seed last year, but the NFL had them play Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12, against the Baltimore Ravens. The league will announce its playoff schedule following play today.

Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater, left, celebrates a 64 yard field goal with Britton Colquitt during the first half of an NFL football game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, in Denver. (Jack Dempsey, The Associated Press)

An NFL source said Broncos kicker Matt Prater has earned his first Pro Bowl berth.

Prater is 23 of 24 in field goals this year. His lone miss was from 52 yards. Among his makes was a 64 yard field goal against Tennessee that broke a 43 year NFL record.

With 6:57 remaining in Sunday game in Houston, Peyton Manning threw a touchdown pass to receiver Eric Decker, the quarterback 50th of 2013. (He threw one more on the afternoon, ending the day with 51, a new NFL record.) The pass, initially ruled a catch, was reviewed, and upon review, officials upheld the initial ruling.

Five days later, though, Texans interim head coach Wade Phillips says otherwise. Phillips told Houston media Friday that he asked the NFL for clarification on the catch after the fact, and the league told him that upon further review, Decker reception shouldn have been ruled a catch because he was juggling the ball.

Manning, Phillips told Houston media. thought he broke the record. matter what, the touchdown remains, and Manning still has the record, which he sure to add to on Sunday. Want to be the judge yourself? The Broncos have a video of the reception (or incomplete pass, depending on your perspective) on their website.

With just three of these daily posts this week Christmas negated the fourth I get to be a megalomaniac and decide if we going to get two stats or two questions. I choose stats, so bear with me.

Not that we haven heard enough already about the all powerful, transcendent arm of Peyton Manning this week, but here more: In Week 16, Manning accrued 281 yards in the air before catches, good for 70.3 percent of all of his passing yards. For a quarterback whose arm strength is sometimes derided, that a pretty good mark, and it was third best of all quarterbacks in the NFL that week. Only Tony Romo (70.4 percent) and Russell Wilson (81.5 percent) were better.

Peyton Manning is as New Orleans as red beans and rice on Mondays and Fat Tuesdays. The proud native son, who had to move to Denver because of work, adores his hometown and its greatest assets food, music, culture and football prospects.

Manning himself is the greatest football product to ever come out of New Orleans, the city that annually churns out NFL studs. But Peyton himself can attest that Leonard Fournette of St. Augustine is prodigious. Manning got a text this fall from his brother Cooper, who told the Broncos quarterback to turn on ESPN to see greatness. It been more than three weeks since Wolfe came down with what still a pretty mysterious illness on the Broncos team bus Nov. 29, and he hasn been seen at least by the media since. He been back at the facility but hasn practiced, and it hard to say when he be back out there on the field. The team signing defensive end Jeremy Mincey last week might have been a hint that it thinks Wolfe return isn exactly looming, but at the same time, it hasn placed him on injured reserve.

I write up how easy it is to compile passing stats in the NFL this year and what happens this week? All but two quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Andy Dalton throw for less than 300 yards. Fourteen quarterbacks threw Women's Bruce Ellington Jersey for less than 200. And Ryan Tannehill didn't even reach 100.

It was also another week when Peyton Manning widened the gap between the best and all others.

The biggest final week showdowns pit Jay Cutler against Matt Flynn in Chicago and Nick Foles against most likely Kyle Orton as there are reports Tony Romo has a herniated disc and is done for the season in Dallas.

The QB rankings entering week 17:

Quarterback (Last week's ranking)

Peyton said 51 touchdowns will get broken. But if he throws, say, three more at Oakland, will 54 stand for a while? Also averaging 347.4 yards per game and needs 266 more to break Drew Brees' record of 5,476.

It's easy to play quarterback when your two tailbacks, LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown, combine for 248 yards and 3 TDs on 27 carries. Still, can't play much better than 21 of 25 for 230 yards, 2 TDs and 0 picks in 54 11 trouncing of Bears. Next up: Win or go home game at Dallas for division title.

3. Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers (4)

It's a shame his team is wasting one of his best years. Threw for two touchdowns, ran for another and led game winning drive in final minutes to win in the Green Bay snow.
