Packers say goodbye to bye week

The irrepressible Peterson tore apart the Green Bay Packers' defense for 199 yards in 34 carries as the Minnesota Vikings won the game they had to win, 3734.

The flamethrowing Rodgers put up his highest passer rating (131.8) since midOctober, a fourtouchdown, nointerception performance in which he led four scoring drives in his team's five secondhalf possessions.

It became the stolen possession in a game that wound up with the Vikings having the ball last and winning on automatic Blair Walsh's 29yard field goal as time expired.

"You got Adrian Peterson playing six months out of surgery," defensive end Mike Neal said. "And you got ARod, who's a man amongst boys out there playing the quarterback position."

Now No. 28 and No. Saturday in an NFC wildcard playoff game." Bring 'em on," cornerback Tramon Williams said. "I'll bet if you ask 53 guys right now, they'd say they're ready to go. I have no doubt we'll be ready."

Green Bay (115), which needed a victory for the No. 2 seeding and instead slipped to No. 3, and sixthseeded Minnesota (106) have met only once in the postseason. That was in the 2004 wildcard round when Daunte Culpepper threw four touchdown passes and Brett Favre tossed four interceptions as the Vikings rolled, 3117, at Lambeau Field.

It was the last playoff game for coach Mike Sherman, who was coaching in the postseason for the fourth year in a row just like his successor, Mike McCarthy, will Saturday night.

"Tough, tough loss today here in Minnesota," said McCarthy. "Everybody has confidence going into the playoffs; most importantly, we'll be at home. We're excited to play these guys again."

The Packers, a 3 favorite, had won nine straight regularseason finales and an wholesalecheapbearsjerseys.com astonishing 17 of their last 18. They also were looking to sweep Minnesota for the third straight year, something that hadn't happened since Vince Lombardi's legions started 60 against the still wetbehindtheears Vikings in 1961'63.

Despite their 34point explosion, the Packers never led after a terrible start saw them fall behind by 130 and 207 deficits. They rallied to tie the score at 27 and 34, but the Vikings drove 61 yards in the final three minutes to send the Twin Cities into ecstasy.

It was the Vikings' fourth straight triumph since http://www.wholesalecheapbearsjerseys.com/ a 2314 defeat at Lambeau Field. After that, they beat Chicago, won handily on the road against St. Louis and Houston before laying a seasonhigh 444 yards on the Cheap Bears Jerseys Packers.

"I think we've shown in the month of December that we can win on the road," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said. "Our Wholesale Jerseys guys know how to win on the road. It won't take a whole lot to get our players fired up to go play in Lambeau."

Peterson fell just 9 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's singleseason record of 2,105 rushing yards. Despite the Packers' supreme effort and rabid gangtackling, www.wholesalecheapbearsjerseys.com he would not be denied victory.

On the other hand, Rodgers recovered from two quick threeandouts to savage a secondary that had to play the majority of the game without the toughness and leadership of veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield. He tried to play with a fractured hand but had to bow out in the first half.

That left the Vikings with little kick returner Marcus Sherels matched in the slot against Greg Jennings. That was a frequent mismatch, as it also was when Rodgers laid a 73yard lob on the hands of Jordy Nelson behind Cheap Jerseys Sherels in the third quarter.

"Without ARod, this boat don't float," linebacker Erik Walden said. "Without APete, their boat don't float. They're arguably the two best players in the game."

Rodgers did some amazing stuff in the waning seconds of the first half, shaking off the cobwebs of an Everson Griffen sack to assemble his teammates at the line and find Jermichael Finley for 14 yards. With 1 second left, Mason Crosby then kicked a 51yard field goal Wholesale Bears Jerseys to light the fire for a secondhalf comeback.

"It's amazing," Finley said. "When I'm on the sideline I love to watch 28 run the ball, and when I'm in the game I'm playing with the greatest."

But no matter how hard Rodgers and his arsenal of receivers, minus Randall Cobb (ankle), did try, they couldn't overcome that awful start.

There were bad signs galore early.

McCarthy won the coin toss, deferred one more time and then watched his defense give up three first downs and Walsh's 54yard field goal.

Sherels brought back a punt 25 yards, the longest against the Packers all year.

On third and 11, Toby Gerhart crunched for 21 yards on a simple screen pass to set up the first of Peterson's two touchdowns.

Tim Masthay's bad punt (28yard net, 3.19 seconds of hang time) set up another field goal by Walsh, and it was 130 two plays into the second quarter.

Then Rodgers cost himself what would have been a long reception by Finley with a delay of game penalty.

"A lot of us wanted that extra week," said Rodgers. "It maybe would have helped with injuries with Randall Cobb and Charles Woodson. This was a playoff atmosphere today. We played tough and came back. We have nothing to be ashamed of. We played a team who was desperate."
