Vikings' Mike Singletary wants to be a head coach again

Mike Singletary has let it be known. He wants to be an NFL head coach again.

"I believe that's what I am," the Pro Football hall of famer told the Pioneer Press on Thursday. "I want that spot again."

Singletary, the Vikings' assistant coach who is in his third season working with the team's linebackers, headed San Francisco from midway through the 2008 season until late in the 2010 campaign. He compiled an 18 22 record in his first stint as a head coach at any level.

Now 55, Singletary said he's ready for another chance and would do a better job. He had just 5 1/2 years' experience as www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-bobby-hull-authentic-jersey-c-1_77_82.html an NFL assistant when he took over the 49ers.

"No one can tell you what's it's like in that seat," said Singletary, a Chicago Bears middle linebacker from 1981 92. "I didn't have a lot of experience at that time, and you don't really know what you don't know until you're in that position. And so, rather than look at that and going, 'Oh, man, I don't ever want to be a head coach again,' it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. And I will always be thankful for the 49ers for allowing me to do that because it gave me www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-denis-savard-authentic-jersey-c-1_77_101.html what I needed for that next time (as a head coach)."

Singletary was fired with one game left in the 2010 season, when the 49ers were 5 10. They hired Jim Harbaugh, who took them to the NFC Championship game following the 2011 season and to the Super Bowl last season.

"The 49ers were trying to build a new stadium and trying to take the team to the next level and could not wait for me to mature," Singletary said.

Singletary said he has gained valuable experience in Minnesota. Count Vikings coach Leslie Frazier as one who says Bobby Hull Authentic Jersey Singletary is ready for another shot.

"I'd love for it to happen," said Frazier, Singletary's 1981 85 Chicago teammate. "He's a guy more than capable of getting it done. It's just a matter of getting another opportunity. He's a tremendous leader. He's very passionate about the game and understands the game. He's a tremendous teacher."

For now, with Denis Savard Authentic Jersey the Vikings 1 6, Singletary is trying to help Frazier any way he can. He is the only Minnesota assistant who has been an NFL head coach.

"I always told him, 'My door is right down the hall, and any time you need to talk to me, I'm there,' " Singletary said. "From time to time, I'll stop by and talk to him."

Thursday was one such day.

"I was talking with him about some of the trials and tribulations he went through during the tough year they had there," Frazier said of Singletary's last season with the 49ers. "He's a great sounding board in that way. Looking for advice, I pick his brain with some of the things that he's had to deal with as a head coach. So he's a great resource for me."

"Stay the course," Frazier said. "Don't panic because the players then will panic. Just stay true to who you are and just continue to press the guys to perform.".
