History points to NY Giants beating Cowboys on Sunday

Tony Romo and the Cowboys usually find a way to lose when the stakes are high.

The Cowboys have won five Super Bowls and only the Steelers have won more. They've had some of the greatest players in NFL history and along with the Yankees are the most recognizable sports brands globally.

But the Cowboys have a split personality.

America's Team is also America's Chokers.

No team has suffered more excruciating losses in big games than the Cowboys. The core of the team that comes into MetLife Stadium on Sunday for a huge showdown with the Giants has lost just about every big game it has played the last couple of years, including when the NFC East title was at stake in the final game of the 2011 season against the Giants and the 2012 season against the Redskins.

"Just because they don't have big games under their belt doesn't mean they aren't capable of winning them," Mathias Kiwanuka said. "If you treat them like that, it's a little bit of a trap."

The Cowboys are 5 5, the Giants are 4 6 after losing their first six games and they are both chasing the Eagles, who are 6 5 and have a bye on Sunday. The season is on the line for the Giants. If they lose to Dallas, they will have been swept by the Cowboys and trail them by two games and be down the tiebreaker.

But this is also a very big game for the Cowboys and they don't win many of them.

The Steelers and the Cowboys have been in an NFL high eight Super Bowls, so historically it's hard to argue with Dallas' success even though it's been 17 seasons since they've last been to the Super Bowl.

The heartbreaking losses in huge games started way back in the Tom Landry era on Bart Starr's quarterback sneak with 13 seconds remaining in the Ice Bowl Game in Green Bay to win the 1967 NFL Championship Game. That came one year after the Cowboys' attempt to tie the Packers in the title game in Dallas ended when Don Meredith threw an end zone interception from the 2 yard line with 28 seconds left. The Packers went on to win Super Bowls I and II, which surely the Cowboys would have done if they had defeated Green Bay.

Then when the Cowboys finally made it to their first Super Bowl three years later, they lost to the Colts on a field goal with five seconds remaining. The heartbreak continued with two Super bowl losses to the Steelers. They lost the 1981 NFC title game in San Francisco thanks to "The Catch" by Dwight Clark with 51 seconds remaining when to this day the Cowboys are still convinced Joe Montana was trying to throw the ball away. It was the second of three consecutive losses by the Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game.

Of course, they did win two Super Bowls in the '70s and three Super Bowls in a four year stretch from 1992 95, but have won only two playoff games since then. Tony Mike Iupati Womens Jersey Romo is extremely talented and has a $106 million contract, but he has one playoff victory since taking over from Drew Bledsoe early in the 2006 season. His botched hold on a potential game winning chip shot field goal in a wild card game that season in Seattle sent Bill Parcells into retirement.

The next year, the Cowboys were 13 3, Romo went to Cabo with Jessica Simpson in the off week before they lost to the Giants in the divisional round of the playoffs. Romo threw an end zone interception with nine seconds left to clinch the 21 17 victory for the Giants.

In the final game of the 2011 season, Romo was outplayed by Eli Manning and the Giants won the division at 9 7 and went on to win the Super Bowl. Last year, Romo had a crucial interception on a screen pass with three minutes left and the Cowboys down three in the final game of the season vs. Washington that once again prevented Dallas from winning the NFC East and knocked them out of the playoffs.

Even when Romo is great, he somehow finds a way to screw it up. Earlier this season, he slugged it out with Peyton Manning, throwing for 506 yards and five touchdowns, but his only interception of the game with 1:57 to play set up the Broncos winning field goal in a 51 48 Dallas loss.

"You ask any quarterback in the league if they want that game under their belt, they would probably say yes obviously not having an interception at that point in time," Justin Tuck said. "He's a helluva damn quarterback and we're going to have our hands filled with him. We understand he is great at what he does, but we've had success against him."

Just to be consistent, Tuck still has no use for the Cowboys, but no longer uses the word "hate."

"I dislike the Cowboys, yes," he said.
