At Northeast El Paso pool this weekend

Labor Day weekend was the unofficial end of summer and for El Pasoans who use the city's outdoor swimming pools, Saturday and Sunday is the last weekend they will get to use them before they are drained until Memorial Day weekend in 2014.

So it's everybody out of the pool unless you're with your Women's Joe Thomas Jersey fourlegged friends. Saturday and Sunday at Nations Tobin Aquatic Center, 8831 Railroad.

Pet owners can take their dogs in for a dip in the pool for $2 (humans can swim for free).

"We will have over 275 dogs per day at the pool, which also has a grassy green area with shade and a smaller wading pool that the dogs love as well," said Wright Stanton, aquatic manager for the department.

The Animal Rescue League of El Paso will also be on site to provide pet adoptions at a nominal fee along with the El Paso Humane Society.

Tammy's Homemade Dog Treats will be there for hungry dogs on both days.

Enchanted Pet Adoptions from New Mexico and El Paso Pet's Barn are sponsoring awards at the event.

Oh yes, there Joe Thomas Youth Jersey will be competitions going on.

Competition includes a Advertisement

cutest bathing suit (for dogs, not owners), best doggy paddle and best Joe Thomas Jersey White dog jumper on each day.

Lisa and Joe Gallardo have taken their two Akita mixes to Dog Day Swimming.

"Last year we also got our dogs microchipped at this event," she said. "Even though Onyx and Topaz had never been near the water before, we really wanted them to go for it. My husband threw them in the pool and they took to the water very well. We took them out of the water and they immediately wanted to get back in right away."

Gallardo said she was at first concerned about how the pair would react around other dogs but her dogs made many new doggie friends and judging by how fast their tails were wagging, had the time of their lives.

"All pets will only be allowed entry with proof of vaccinations," said Nicole Sarrette, event organizer from the Parks and Recreation Department.

The event always has informative booths on pet safety, training and other areas of interest.

Stacy Wright, Parks and Recreation supervisor, said golden retrievers, boxers and Labradors take to the water better than most dogs.

"My dog is a Newfoundland breed, which is supposed to be great in water because they are often used in water rescues," she said. "But my dog just doesn't like the water that much."

Angelica Baca has three dogs Goldy, Faith and Bonita two that are golden retrievers, and one a mixed breed.

"I love this event," she nikeclevelandbrownsstore.com/Authentic-Joe-Thomas-Jersey said. "I usually take them to the splash pad area of the pool to enjoy the atmosphere of all of the dogs."

Loretta Hyde of the Animal Rescue League of El Paso and a fixture at the event since 2009 will be doing pet adoptions.

She said people like the Labradors because they are water dogs.

There will be two chocolate Labrador puppies ready for adoption at the event.

There will also be a variety of large puppies for adoption.

"Water vests for dogs will also be for sale, which can be used for their pets near all bodies of water," she said. "If dogs could smile, you could see so much laughter and happiness from them as the dogs are off the leash but controlled and so wellbehaved."
